The account of a former official official officer sold 60,000 copies in its first week and reached the top 10 on the best-selling list of Amazon.com amidst efforts by the social media giant to discredit the book.
Released last week by Flathrion Books, a Macmillan trace, Sarah Wynn-Williams’ “careless people” claim cruel and differently disturbing behavior by Mark Zuckerberg, Joel Kaplan, Sheryl Sandberg and other executives and describes Zuckerberg’s claimed efforts to gain favor with Chinese officials.
Meta has objected that Wynn-Williams, a former director of global public policy that left what was then Facebook in 2017, violated a detachment agreement and wrote a book full of inaccuracies.
According to Flation, first week sales include audio and digital printed publications. On Wednesday, “careless people” were ranked 3rd in Amazon.
In response to a complaint presented by Meta, Emergency Arbitrator Nicholas A. Gowen last week set a Wynn-Williams reception promoting the book or making further “critical claims” for its former employer. In his ruling, Gowen wrote that Meta had “established a chance of success in the merits of his contractual claim for non-improvement” against Wynn-Williams. Flation can still publish and promote “careless people”.
A statement from Meta praised the arbitrator’s decision, saying “claims that Sarah Wynn Williams’ fake and slanderous book should have never been published.” Meta has otherwise called “careless people” a mix of old and previously reported claims on the company and false accusations of our leaders. “
Flation also issued a statement, saying “was terrified by Meta tactics to silence our author through the use of a non -division clause in a detachment agreement.” The publisher added that the referee had not addressed the allegations made by Wynn-Williams.
“The book went through a full process of editing and verification, and we remain committed to publishing important books like this. We will continue to support and promote it,” the statement said.
Flation did not notify the book until just days before its publication. Meta’s response has included media questions, among them the Associated Press, on their coverage plans. Washington Post critic Ron Charles wrote last week that he had received repeated messages from Meta.
“In my 27 years of reviewing and editing newspaper book sections, no company has ever done this with me,” he noted.
